Weekly Share: Kahlil Gibran, The Unfolding

Kahlil Gibran was a Lebanese-American poet, philosopher, and artist. His book “The Prophet” (IndieBound, Amazon) is one of the best-selling books of all time. I had the privilege of seeing his art in person at the Telfair Academy in Savannah, GA and it is as poetic as his writings.

The world around us would like us to see life as a quest to reach a known destination, which is one of the reasons we struggle with failure. In this beautiful paragraph, Gibran reminds us that life is an unfolding. There’s no success or failure in that.

Say not, ‘I have found the truth,’ but rather, ‘I have found a truth.’
Say not, ‘I have found the path of the soul.’ Say rather, ‘I have met the soul walking upon my path.’
For the soul walks upon all paths.
The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed.
The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals.
— Kahlil Gibran, "The Prophet"
