Weekly Share: David Foster Wallace, “This Is Water”

There’s no better piece on becoming more aware of the voice in your head and not letting it rule your life than David Foster Wallace’s 2005 commencement speech at Kenyon College, where he calls for awareness of the “default setting” of reality we tend to operate in. He advocates living a compassionate life, which is a slightly different lens than the one we discussed (living an authentic life, as your real self), but a) both are great things to aspire to, b) there's huge if not complete overlap between the two, and c) you can decide which lens speaks to you.

You can listen to the speech on YouTube or SoundCloud, read the transcript for free or buy the short book.
